Steps to Jesus

Restoring Hearts Indigenous Ministries believes that the first place to begin to heal and have our hearts restored is through Jesus. We will have true spiritual healing when we begin our journey with Him.

The Story about Sin and Salvation

Jesus was so happy when He created Adam and Eve. They looked like Him and He made them creative and perfect like He was.  God had to test the loyalty of his newest creations, so He put a tree in the middle of their garden, of which He told them NOT to eat. One day, Eve found herself at this forbidden tree. Before her was a beautiful flying serpent – Satan in disguise!  “You won’t die if you eat this fruit,” he told her! “God has lied to you.” But of course, it was Satan who was lying. And Eve believed him. She ate the fruit and sure enough, she didn’t die and she felt wiser! Eve ran to Adam to give him the fruit, and Adam felt sick to his stomach. “Oh Eve, how could you have done this,” he mourned? He knew that Eve would eventually die because of her disobedience. He chose to die with her, and quickly ate of the fruit.  Now all human beings were destined to die. And not just to die and be buried -but to die and never live again. Forever. Jesus, their loving Creator, was heartbroken. He could not bear the thought that Adam and Eve and all their descendants would die and never live again, and He made a very hard decision. He decided He would come to this earth and die for human beings.

Sin is such a terrible thing, that only the Son of God’s blood could atone for our sins. Jesus could look down through history and see our First People – including you and me- and he decided that we are worth dying for. He suffered a great deal so that all human beings, including our First Peoples, could go to heaven and live forever with Him someday, and He is waiting for you with outstretched arms to accept His gift of love.

One of the most beautiful things about giving your heart to Jesus, is of course, that He will heal your heart. He loves you so much, and wants to bring you peace and hope. He will lift your heavy burden of sin and help you deal with all the pain and suffering that sin has brought you. Some of our hurt is because of things that others have done to us. But much of our hurting hearts is because of the sins in our own lives. The Bible tells us that no matter who we are, we have all sinned. The only way for us to get rid of this sin is for us to give our hearts to Jesus.

If your heart and life is broken and you want to give your heart to Jesus, below are the steps you can follow to do just that

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit
Psalms 34:18 ESV

How to Become Saved

1. Come To Jesus

If you look at your life and deep into your soul, and you see that you are not pure and clean and you are sick of sin and all the pain it has brought you, then Jesus is speaking to your heart through His Spirit. He invites you to come to Him right now, just as you are. Tell Jesus, “I come to you Jesus, just as I am, with all my brokenness and all my sins.” This is how we come to love Jesus.
John 6:37, Revelation 22:17

2. Repent Of Your Sins

Now that you belong to Jesus, you will be truly sorry for your sins and not want sin in your life anymore. Make a decision that with God’s help you will turn away from all sins. Ask Jesus to put real sorrow and hatred for sin in your heart and to help you to turn away from your sins.
Acts 3:19

3. Confess Your Sins

Tell God you are sorry for your sins and ask Him to forgive you for them. As you remember different sins, confess each one to God. This is a good time to confess and ask forgiveness of people you have hurt and to forgive those who have hurt you. Ask God for wisdom and help - He will show you when and how to do this, then give you strength and the right words you need.
1 John 1:9

4. Get Baptized

By coming to Jesus, you are filled and baptized with the Holy Spirit. If it’s possible, you should also follow Jesus’ example and become baptized with water as well. This is like a wedding ceremony where you make a promise to be faithful and where your family and friends witness your commitment to God. You symbolically leave your sins in the water and rise to a new life in Jesus.
Acts 2:38

5. Have Faith

Believe the words of God. The devil will send many discouraging thoughts and people into your life to give you doubts about your decision to be God’s child. Don’t listen to the words and lies of the devil, God is the only One who will never lie to you.
Hebrews 10:23, Hebrews 6:18

6. Obey God

Learn from the Bible how to live a holy and pure life. Ask for the Holy Spirit to lead you to all truth, and then for God’s help to obey Him. Follow the Ten Commandments which are God’s laws of perfect freedom. If you slip and sin, repent and confess and ask God for His strength to stay on His path. If you are sincere, He will always forgive you.
John 14:15, 1 Samuel 15:22

7. Stay Close to Jesus

Once you give your life to Jesus, you need to spend time with Him every day and make Him your real friend.  You will become closer to Him every day and be able to stay on your path to heaven.

There are three main ways to do this

Pray every day and through the day
(Philippians 4:6, 1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Read the Bible every day with the Holy Spirit’s help
(John 17:17, Psalms 119:9)

Tell others about your amazing walk with Jesus
(Isaiah 52:7, Mark 16:15)

He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds
Psalms 147:3 NCV

The Sinner's Prayer

If you have given your broken heart to Jesus, you can trust that your heart will be restored. You may know it right away, or your heart may heal over time - but trust God that He will heal your broken heart.

2 Corinthians 3:17 says,
"where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."
There is freedom from sin and all the anger and hurt that sin has put in your heart.

If you want to pray the sinner’s prayer, you can say the following prayer.

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask Your forgiveness for all my sins. I believe You died for me and rose from the dead so that I can be free from the devil’s chains and have my broken life restored in you. I turn from my sins and invite You to live in my heart. I accept you as my Lord and Savior. In Your Name. Amen.”

If you prayed this prayer, you are forgiven and saved!
All of heaven - including God the Father- are rejoicing over you with singing!
Zephaniah 3:17

Be sure to follow the steps above to stay on your path to heaven.
